As you know, this November sees the launch of Solaris 11. The UK Oracle User Group are pleased to be holding a special Solaris 11 launch event. The event will run throughout the afternoon and extend into our usual monthly UKOUG Solaris SIG meeting, beginning at 18:00.

Oracle Solaris 11 Demo without the aid of a Safety Net

The session will steer away from the usual slide driven event, and focus on a series of live demos of various Solaris 11 technologies, (some run in the background to avoid awkward waiting times), but all leading to building a complete "end-to-end" demo starting with Installation, through Configuration, Migration, Security hardening and the Observability technologies available in the upcoming Oracle Solaris 11 release.
     Topics covered will include IPS, Auto-Install, Solaris 10 -> 11 Migration, ZFS Encryption, new Network Configuration, Network Virtualisation (Crossbow), Zone Enhancements, plus much more.

Think of it as a Solaris 11 Demo buffet!

If you'd like more detail about a particular topic, and the general Q&A is not enough, you can put in a request via the organising committee for a possible future Solaris SIG event.

Jarod Nash, Solaris Staff Engineer

Jarod joined Sun Microsystems in 1995, and worked for over 10 years in the Services organisation doing both general front line, and specific kernel backline work, before moving to Revenue Product Engineering (RPE) to support the ZFS Storage Appliance range.  The support role comes with a variety of challenges and exposure to disparate technologies, and while having a general interest in almost all things "Solaris", Jarod has a particular fondness for ZFS.
     He has previously presented at the former LOSUG events (now Solaris SIG) with ZFS: Under the Hood, SMF Overview, Solaris CIFS Service and has been involved other LOSUG activities.

 
After Jarod’s presentation, we will move into our networking area for refreshments, so do make sure you stay to toast to Solaris 11!
