What a DBA Needs to Know About the Differences Between Oracle Physical & Logical Database Replication

« Return to event

Time: 11:30 AM - 12:15 PM

Track: Track 1

There are 2 types of replication methods available for the Oracle database; physical and logical. In this presentation we will explore these differences, and the best use cases for each. We will examine the underlying concepts and methods used in both types of replication and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each type. In doing this we will answer questions such as: What does Oracle Data Guard and GoldenGate use? What is the best replication method for high availability, disaster recovery, zero-downtime migration, or offloading reporting? What are some alternative products beside Oracle Data Guard and GoldenGate that use the same types of replication? This presentation is aimed at DBAs of junior through intermediate experience interested in knowing more about the field of replication in the Oracle environment, and achieving clarity on these commonly misunderstood concepts.
