UK Oracle User Group

Joe Dorrian

Joe DorrianJoe works with a small team at Barnardos to support all functional and technical needs across their Oracle Application stack.

Why did you first engage with the user group?

We were looking to interact more with the wider Oracle Communuity and felt that the UKOUG would give us a great way to not only learn about what other Organisations were doing, but to also meet those who driving the decisions behind them.

What value did you find through UKOUG?

The UKOUG through its larger conferences and the smaller SIG meetings has helped our Organisation to make more informed decisions regarding the future of our Oracle Applications and to understand the challenges that could arise from the decisions we make. On a personal level it's great to be able to keep in touch with what other companies are up to with their Oracle products.

What about UKOUG membership has surprised you?

The wide range of topics covered by the UKOUG has been a real eye opener not only in the form of the Conferences and SIGS but also in the very informative Oracle Scene magazine.

Is there a specific example where engaging with UKOUG has had a direct beneficial result for you and your company?

With a large upgrade project scheduled to begin soon it was very useful to be able to take our whole team to the UKOUG Application Conference where we could hear from fellow Oracle Professionals the positives and pitfalls of what awaits us next year from the people who had been their and done it before us.

What are the top three reasons you would recommend membership to another Oracle user?

1) It's a great place to meet other Oracle Professionals and hear about their experiences.
2) A opportunity to learn about the latest Oracle technologies.
3) To hear the real Oracle stories from other Orgainsations, warts and all!

Any final comments?

All UKOUG staff are very helpful :-)
