Richard ChildeRichard has been an apps DBA for around 20 years, but has been doing a lot over the past couple of years with Weblogic applications and ADF Development and currently works for Lloyd's Register

Why did you first engage with the user group?

I wanted to attend the SIG meetings to learn more about the latest Oracle technologies. It's good to understand them so you can see how they can be applied to the environment where you are working and what benefits they may bring.

What value did you find through UKOUG?

The SIG meetings are very useful as you get to interact with experts in a particular discipline, rather than just reading the documentation. Sometimes it's nice to ask a question to someone who's been there and done that.

What about UKOUG membership has surprised you?

The meetings are very friendly and down to earth.

Is there a specific example where engaging with UKOUG has had a direct beneficial result for you and your company?

I developed a mobile app using ADF Mobile, and I met some very valuable contacts through the UKOUG. This has proved invaluable when looking for some assistance.

What are the top three reasons you would recommend membership to another Oracle user?

  • Networking
  • Product education
  • Sharing solutions

Any final comments?

If the business you're working for uses Oracle products, then it really makes sense to get ahead of the game and find out the latest from the UKOUG.
