How to get value from your membership

Here’s our guide on how to make the best use of your membership.

Take advantage of the online services

The first thing to do upon joining is to activate your online account. This will enable you to access member services at any time, from anywhere.

Attend and participate in events

UKOUG provides a variety of events that include Special Interest Group meetings (SIGs), conferences, forums and webinars. We pride ourselves on providing professional events where our members can learn, network and share their experiences of using Oracle products.

Attending and participating in event enables you to:

  • Save money on formal training by attending high quality, non theoretical presentations
  • Develop relationships with your peers in order to share and gain additional intellectual knowledge
  • Pick up some very valuable hints and tips on how to solve product and systems issues – free of charge!
  • Hear from the inhouse practitioner, the consultant and the Oracle representative on the same topic

Look out for the colours on our delegate badges to get you talking with other attendees. Blue - delegates first ever SIG/Forum, Yellow - non members.

The benefits for novice or intermediate professionals are tremendous as our events provide background strategies and real life tactics, as well as networking opportunities. 

For advanced professionals it's more about passing on knowledge, keeping up with the latest technology and techniques, expanding personal networks and reconnecting with peers.

Many of our events provide exhibition space for you to learn about the solutions available to help you streamline your processes and increase your success.

Additional value from presenting at events

Take your attendance at an event to the next level and present.

We encourage our members to present and share their story with the rest of the community as everyone agrees sharing experiences is the best way to learn.

Many of our events are flexible enough to allow for time slots from as little as 10 minutes up to an hour. You can even use a flip chart if you're not keen on PowerPoint slides!

Provide feedback and opinions

UKOUG is one of the most influential user groups feeding into Oracle at a global level. Our Board of Directors has built key senior relationships within Oracle and all our events have an Oracle representative assisting the committees. Feedback from our members goes to the right people within Oracle at a faster pace.

It’s important that all our members take the opportunities available to provide feedback into UKOUG for two main reasons:

  • Member feedback is vital for the growth of your user group. UKOUG relies on member input to help develop and shape the organisation to ensure the membership is being served in the right way
  • Member feedback is passed on to Oracle to ensure that UKOUG remains a powerful and significant voice for the Oracle customer base. In 2010 for example, our Application Server & Middleware Special Interest Group was instrumental in feeding back to Oracle about users concerns regarding iAS 10.1.2;Members provided evidence to back up internal discussions on the subject that resulted in Oracle postponing the end of iAS 10.1.2 premier support for another year

Become active in your community

We could not deliver the range of products and services that come as part of your membership package without the help of an extensive network of over 100 volunteers. These volunteers not only help us, but more importantly help ensure that we deliver you a high value membership offering.

We encourage you to really maximise the value of your membership and give something back to the wider membership base by getting involved and actively participate in your community
