Andy Mendelsohn to Launch Oracle's Latest Big Data Breakthrough on July 15

At a launch event on July 15, Oracle Executive Vice President Andy Mendelsohn plans to unveil a new Oracle big data solution designed to enable customers to use SQL to query Hadoop, NoSQL, and Oracle Database with enterprise-grade security and high performance.

With this new breakthrough, Oracle customers will be able to

  • Simplify data access. Because the new solution seamlessly extends SQL across the entire big data management system, organizations knowledgeable about SQL can now access all their data using those skills, dramatically simplifying access to all data.
  • Speed insight. By enabling SQL to access to Hadoop and other data sources, it is much easier to integrate these sources into existing applications that rely on SQL. As a result, organizations can discover and operationalize big data insights with unprecedented speed.
  • Enhance security. Now organizations can use Oracle Database to access, query, and analyze all their data, even when that data is located in Hadoop or NoSQL. That means that they can extend Oracle Database's enterprise-grade security umbrella—which ranges from authentication and authorization to auditing and redaction—across Hadoop and other key big data sources.

"With this solution, a single SQL query can now access all your data, whether it's stored in Hadoop, NoSQL, or Oracle Database," explains Paul Sonderegger, Oracle's senior principal for business intelligence market development and Oracle's big data evangelist. 

Using smart scan technology inspired by Oracle Exadata, data is processed where it is stored, minimizing data movement and maximizing performance. Security for big data is an important issue, and with this approach you can now seamlessly extend the existing security policies you use in Oracle Database to all your new data sources.
