A Day of Real World Performance 2015- A Successful Debate!

20 March 2015

The 'A Day of Real World Performance' event at London Coin Street Conference Centre, attracted attendees from companies such as Barclays, Tesco, and BAE Systems. With high profile speakers Tom Kyte, Andrew Holdsworth and Graham Wood leading the debate of the day it’s no surprise there was a full house in attendance.

"This event has a lot more yearsof industry knowledge in it, which is no doubt because of the speakers. They’ve not only seen the customer side, but they also know the Oracle side. It's not like they are telling us Oracles secrets, but it gives more substance to what they're saying."
David Almond-

Travelling from across the pond; Tom, Andrew and Graham have over 63 years of Oracle knowledge between them. With Tom Kyte being the Oracle ACE behind the AskTom column and website, his knowledge on databases puts him in a good stead to share his expertise at this debate style event. With all three Oracle Rockstars presenting, comparing and discussing ideas and case studies it made the sessions ‘more interesting, more engaging and helped by giving different
perspectives’ (
Kevin Behan, Claremont). As the Vice President of the Real World Performance group, Andrew Holdsworth's in depth knowledge of database administration coincides with Graham Wood's experience with building and maintaining database systems. Making the three Oracle extraordinaires the perfect team to debate their views based on their experiences.

‘The session has been very intense and focussed, it’s really good value for money. It relates to what we do on a daily basis’
Imanuela Eke-Egele, Ocado

With the primary focus of discussion being:

  • Connection Pooling (RTP Side)
  • Connection management (RTP Side)
  • Data Loading
  • Star Query Execution

The debate gave delegates an insight into new methods of tackling issues with various systems, as well as using real life examples, relevant to the delegates current roles and organisations, preparing them for likely situations in their day to day working life. The engaging style of the event gave delegates a wider perspective into ways they can adapt their current working practices to utilise their use of Oracle Database applications.
