User experience and the competitive edge

Catch up with Group Vice President Jeremy Ashley, who leads the Oracle Applications User Experience team, to see how mobile devices and emerging technology are influencing the Oracle user experience on Oracle Voice, an Oracle blog on the platform. Think you’re one among billions who is shackled to your phone? You might be, but Jeremy says that mobile devices also free you and allow you to be more human in Why Oracle Had To Rethink UX For Cloud And Mobile.

And maybe the Internet of Things, or IoT, strikes you as something just for technology geeks and the movies. Jeremy’s next post points out that IoT is already here, it has been for longer than you think, and a better user experience on any device is yours for the taking.

Jeremy and his team will be at OpenWorld, talking about the Oracle user experience roadmap and more. In addition to several sessions on UX strategy, the OAUX team will be showing demos of current, nearly-there, and future user experiences at the OAUX Exchange on Monday, Oct. 26. You don’t need an OOW badge to get in, but you do need to register.

We know there’s a LOT to do at OpenWorld, though, so we want to give you options. Next time you’re at Oracle HQ, book a tour of the Cloud UX lab and see the latest demos we’ve got.

Leading with UX: the influence of emerging technology

Behind the Oracle user experience goals of designing for simplicity, mobility, and extensibility, there lies a core design philosophy guiding the Oracle Applications User Experience (OAUX) team’s work in emerging technologies: “Glance, Scan, Commit.” That great team has conducted a mountain of research and helped developed a design experience that shapes the concepts you see in the Oracle Applications Cloud, and Jake Kuramoto discusses this further in a new post on the Voice of User Experience (VoX) blog.

Speaking of our pal Jake, check out this article on him and his team in the August edition of Profit. It explores the pioneering and risk-taking approach necessary to address truly groundbreaking technologies, such as the smartwatch.

For a broader look at emerging technology, including IoT, wearables, voice technology, visualizations and more, visit the new Emerging Technology page on the Usable Apps website. See how our research there influences the direction for Oracle's user experience strategy.

What's a UX Innovation event?

ePROSEED: Laurie Pattison, whose team leads the UX Innovation events, proclaims the recent IoT hackathon with eProseed in Utrecht, The Netherlands, a success!  Members of the Oracle Applications User Experience (OAUX) team worked directly with partners, customers and students for this first-of-its-kind event, where the teams each had access to a "real" Oracle developer and UX expert during the hackathon. Blog posts on the event are available online:

  1. Licht Is Uit? eProseed Shines the Light on IoT and Design Patterns with TopCasuS
  2. De groeten uit Nederland!

Ultan O’Broin, whose OAUX charter is to work with partners like eProseed on enablement activities and who participated as a judge in the hackathon, points out that social media posts from the IoT hackathon made the top 10 lists on Oracle’s Archbeat blog for both tweets and Facebook updates, in case you’d like to see more about the event.

Julian Orr, a member of the OAUX Communications & Outreach team who participated in the hackathon, said the event showed off Oracle’s “cool factor.” This type of event can make people a lot more comfortable with the decision to invest in Oracle’s technology and design, he said, and it was clear that Oracle is serious about creative thinking and innovation.
