Are Relational Databases Becoming Legacy

9 January 2017

UKOUG Database & RAC Cloud, Infrastructure & Availability SIG Thursday 23rd February

Date: Thursday 23rd February 2017

Time: 14:20 - 15:05

Track: Database

Abstract: With the rise of NoSQL databases like MongoDB and Cassandra (as well as a number of other relational technologies like MySQL and PostgreSQL), I believe that Oracle (and some other relational databases) are starting their journey to being legacy. This presentation will examine some of these up and coming database technologies - highlighting how they differ from their relational counterparts and how Oracle is attempting to stem the tide with some of the new features in Oracle 12c like multi-tenant, JSON support and sharding.

Presented by:  Alistair Parry, IBM
