Best Practice for Role and Menu Creation in JD Edwards

20 August 2013

Standard EnterpriseOne has an excellent strategy for roles, menus and security. You define your roles to reflect your standard business processes.

EnterpriseOne can then be configured so that each role has a specific menu structure and corresponding security settings.

Small, process based roles are the key to a successful implementation.

They minimise day to day security changes as “users change, processes don’t”.  So, you add or remove roles as and when your users change responsibility.

ALLOut has a standard set of process based roles that you configure to meet your specific requirements – and then upload into EnterpriseOne using the ALL Out grids.

Create a Parallel Universe

EnterpriseOne has some very powerful features that enable you to create a parallel implementation of menus, pages, roles and security, alongside the existing set-up.

  • New installs – leave the pristine set-up as delivered by Oracle as is – create a new, custom set-up alongside using a tool such as ALL Out.
  • Upgrades – create a brand new set of menus, pages, roles and security alongside your existing live set-up – test and cut over in a controlled way.
