This question actually comes in several variants, all of which are equally important to address and the most common variants of the above question are:
We will answer each question in turn.
Can I use Oracle GoldenGate with EBS on-premises to set up an operational reporting environment in Oracle Cloud?
Yes. We have certified the use of Oracle GoldenGate to create and run an EBS reporting environment for on-premises. A reporting environment is a secondary (duplicate) instance, which contains selected tables replicated from the primary EBS database. This enables read-intensive, custom reports to be run without using resources on the primary Oracle E-Business Suite database. While we have not formally certified the use of GoldenGate to create and run an EBS reporting environment in Oracle Cloud, this is technically feasible and would work the same way as on-premises.
If you wish to explore this option, refer to our standard documentation for guidance and recommendations:
Important points to be aware of:
Can I use Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service with EBS?
- Refer to the product documentation to understand the limitations and restrictions that apply
- Successful use of Oracle GoldenGate requires an expert understanding of the EBS data model
- You can use Active Data Guard as an alternative operational reporting solution to Oracle GoldenGate
- We recommend using VPN to facilitate secure communication between Oracle Cloud and on-premises environments
No. The use of Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service with Oracle E-Business Suite is not currently certified.
Can I use Oracle GoldenGate to replicate my EBS database to Oracle Cloud?
No. Oracle GoldenGate cannot be used to replicate an EBS database because it does not support replication of all the datatypes used by EBS.
Can I use Oracle GoldenGate to perform a live migration of my EBS database from on-premises to Oracle Cloud?
No. Oracle GoldenGate cannot be used to perform live database migrations from on-premises to Oracle Cloud, again due to restrictions with EBS datatypes.
