Material World: Using Materalised Views

3 March 2016

Karen Jex, Jex Solutions

Date: 21st April 2016

Time: 11:15 - 12:00

Track: Database Server

Materialized views (previously known as snapshots) are database objects that store the results of a query.  A materialized view can be referenced explicitly in queries and other database objects or used implicitly by the optimizer (via “query rewrite”) to improve performance of similar queries.  Indexes can be created on materialized views to further improve performance if required.  Individual materialized views or pre-defined groups of materialized views can be refreshed manually or automatically to keep the data up to date.  This presentation will use case studies and examples to explore ways in which materialized views can be created, refreshed, monitored and managed.  Interesting features and restrictions will be discussed along the way.
