With our first Systems SIG of 2016 kicking off on 8th March, you can find out a little more about Clive King - one of our SIG presenters.
Job Title: Senior Principle Engineer
Tell us about yourself in 100 words:
Work is good if it has 4 attributes, its fun, you learn stuff, money arrives in a modest sized wheel barrow each month and you get a balance with the rest of your life.
I am very fortunate that working in Sun and now Oracle has given me all 4 of those attributes over the last 19 years. I have had the opportunity to travel most of the world, solving problems and learning about great technology, seeing it used and abused and I hope helping our customers use it a little better. What luck !!!
What is your main goal in life?
Be happy. I did the Bob Graham Round a few years ago and will probably look to do something similar again in a year or 2. Currently want to get my karate black belt and see my kids get theirs.
What are your interests (inside and outside of work)?
Fell running, hard problem diagnosis, karate, running a very small farm and getting decent broadband.
Currently most of my work is on large systems performance and trying to root cause obscure panic type bugs. Sad, eh.
How long have you been working with Oracle Systems?
Detail one key take-away from your presentation?
We can now eliminate a whole class of bugs which manifest as security and core dumps with very little effort.
What is the best thing about presenting at a SIG?
You already know a lot of the people and they challenge you more than other audiences do.
What do you predict will be the next big topic in Oracle Systems?
Security, its going to hold the whole industry hostage for the next couple of years at least.
