Over 300 attendees joined us on Tuesday 12th March at the CCD, Dublin for OUG Ireland 2013.
“Great venue, lots of tracks, loads of fantastic speakers... Good job OUG!!” Jon Paul, Keynote speaker and Senior Sales Director for Ireland, Oracle. (Via Twitter)
The day kicked off with an opening keynote from Jon Paul, Senior Sales Director for Ireland, Oracle who talked about Oracle in Ireland and gave a strategy update as well as introducing new Oracle acquisitions and products.
The seven stream agenda packed with content gave attendees a great variety of choice when it came to learning and expanding their knowledge on Fusion Applications, Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Technology, Business Intelligence and JD Edwards. Attendees were also treated to presentations from Oracle ACE Director’s including:
- Roel Hartman, APEX Evangelists
- Mark Rittman, Rittman Mead Consulting
- Debra Lilley, Fujitsu
- Brendan Tierney, DIT
- Mogens Nørgaard, Miracle A/S
Throughout the day there was lively chatter about the event on Twitter with attendees using the hashtag #oug_ire to tweet their positive feedback. The OUG stand included a live twitter stream so that delegates could keep up to date and see their tweets come through on the plasma screen.
“#oug_ire so many great sessions. Lots of exhibitors giving away stuff. Lots of networking. Learning so much. A great community.” Brendan Tierney, Dublin Institute of Technology, speaker (via Twitter)
During the breaks delegates had the chance to network and visit the exhibition hall. Noticeably there were a group of Oracle staff cycling on stationary bikes that were raising money for a sponsored 170 km Dublin to Belfast bike ride. The bike ride is to raise funds for Oscar Knox, who has Neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer. Find out more about Oscar’s story here and donate to the sponsored bike ride here.
The day’s presentations ended with the closing keynote from Mogens Nørgaard, who was a lot more covered up than last year! Yet again he gave a brilliantly insightful and entertaining presentation, this time on ‘The Internet…sorry: The Smartphone Changes Everything’, a spin on Larry Ellison’s famous keynote presentation ‘The Internet Changes Everything’.
“Today I’ve learnt a lot about Exalytics and Consolidation, overall it has been a very enjoyable day.” Andy Carr, Vodafone Ireland
OUG would like to thank the Ireland committee, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and most importantly the delegates that attended for making it such a fantastic event.
