Using Swingbench for Oracle Research

9 January 2017

UKOUG Database & RAC Cloud, Infrastructure & Availability SIG Thursday 23rd February

Date: Thursday 23rd February 2017

Time: 12:35 - 13:20

Track: Database

Abstract: Dominic Giles's Swingbench utility is a well-known load generator for the Oracle database. It comes with a number of benchmarks: Order Entry, Sales History, a Stresstest, and more. Besides running Swingbench to simulate a workload either in graphical or character mode, it is also possible to use the schemas it generates to perform research about Oracle database features and even technology outside the database such as Enterprise Manager. This talk gives an overview of the Swingbench suite, and how they can be used to find out a lot more about the internal mechanisms of the Oracle database, including Exadata.
